Looking to skip the big wedding stress and elope in Chicago? SAME! But for real, weddings as wonderful as they are… are strict schedules, barely time to eat, talking to that co-worker of your mom you met once in 2004, and realizing the day flew by without you having a chance to take it all in. This is where elopements and micro weddings step in and save the day!

Now let’s talk Chicago, I grew up here. I’ve lived in many cities and will live in many more but Chicago? It’s the fucking greatest city in the US hands down. It isn’t just a city of deep-dish pizza, skyscrapers, Malort, and Cubs fans—it’s also an epic spot to say "I do." From urban landscapes to hidden rooftop gems, eloping here is easy, exciting, and way more affordable than a traditional wedding.

Whether you're imagining an intimate ceremony in a lush park, with the skyline in the background, or right by Lake Michigan's waterfront, Chicago offers endless options for a day that’s all about you two - plus maybe a few family members if you’re feelin’ it. Let’s break it down with everything you need to know about eloping in Chicago—from permits to vendors, and, of course, the best places to have that "first" kiss!

Top Places to Elope in Chicago

Chicago’s blend of urban cool and natural beauty means you’ve got a variety of stunning spots to choose from for your elopement. Whether you want the city’s iconic skyline in your photos or a serene waterfront escape within the city - or go fuckin’ wild and do both, there’s a place that’s perfect for your special day.

1. Millennium Park

A Chicago staple! Whether it’s The Bean (Cloud Gate) or the Lurie Garden, Millennium Park offers a gorgeous backdrop right in the heart of downtown. You’ll get those epic skyscraper views along with some greenery. Plus you’re just a short walk away from the lake and some dope bars to have a celebratory glass of champagne or if you’re feeling brave… shots of Malort.

- Permit Info: Yes, you’ll need a special event permit. Check out the details and apply here. Fees typically start around $100 for small ceremonies.

2. Lincoln Park

Want something more outdoorsy? Lincoln Park is perfect for an elopement with its blend of nature and city. Choose between the lush, tranquil gardens of the park or pop over to the North Avenue Beach for a waterfront view.

- Permit Info: You’ll need a permit for most areas within the park. Find more info through the Chicago Park District.

3. Promontory Point

This scenic spot offers one of the best skyline views in the city! Located on the South Side in Burnham Park, Promontory Point is a quieter, more secluded location for an intimate ceremony with Lake Michigan and the Chicago skyline as your backdrop. Bonus points if you can snag a little fire pit and have some s’mores!

- Permit Info: Again, the Chicago Park District has you covered. You can apply for your permit here.

4. Chicago Riverwalk

The Chicago Riverwalk is a romantic spot to elope, especially at sunset when the city lights start reflecting off the water. With cozy, hidden nooks along the way, it’s perfect for a low-key ceremony and a post-wedding cocktail nearby or catch a concert at the House of Blues!

5. Busse Woods

If you want to get out of the city, Busse Woods is a beautiful place to exchange vows and maybe even have a picnic!

Why Elope in Chicago?

Chicago gives you the best of both worlds—a bustling urban backdrop or peaceful spots tucked away from the chaos. Whether you’re Chicago locals or traveling in for your special day, here’s why you should consider the Windy City for your elopement:

1. Iconic Cityscape: From the glittering skyline to historic architecture, you’ll have some of the best views in the country for your wedding photos.

2. Easy and Affordable: No need to go all out. Eloping here lets you say “I do” with minimal stress and cost—leaving you more time (and money) to actually enjoy your new life together.

3. Endless Backdrops: Want a modern urban feel? Check. Prefer a quiet garden ceremony? You got it. Chicago has options for every couple’s style.

Ready to Elope? Here’s What to Do Next

1. Pick Your Spot: Choose your dream location in Chicago and make sure to check if a permit is needed!

2. Get Your Marriage License: Head to the Cook County Clerk's Office to get your license—don’t forget to bring your ID and $60.

3. Hire Your Dream Vendors: Even for an elopement, a great photographer, officiant, and florist can make the day unforgettable.

4. Just Go For It!: The best thing about eloping? It’s all about you two. Keep it simple, have fun, and make some incredible memories in the process.

Ready to make Chicago the backdrop of your love story? Whether you're standing on the edge of Lake Michigan, exchanging vows under the city lights, in your own bavckyard or surrounded by greenery in one of the city's beautiful parks, your Chicago elopement will be nothing short of unforgettable.
